This month we meet Damian Simpson of Ignite Architects
1. What is your role in the Farmers Tauranga Development project?
Project Team Leader for Ignite Architects.
2. What is your background?
I have more than 30 years property industry experience in roles including project architect, project management, team coordination, and contract administration.
Since graduating as an architect in 1995, I’ve worked on many large-scale developments including aged care facilities, healthcare facilities, multi-story apartment complexes, retail developments, historic building refurbishments and seismic upgrade projects.
I joined Ignite Architects as Associate Director in Auckland in 2016 before moving to Tauranga to lead the BOP and Waikato regions.
3. What do you like about working on the project?
I am extremely passionate about the city’s future growth and built environment and a keen advocate of the strategy to revitalise the Tauranga Central Business District. It’s certainly a privilege to be part of the design and delivery team.
The project is a key element of city framework and will act as a catalyst for further CBD growth and development.
Building trusting and enduring relationships with clients, consultants and contractors is critical to business practice. I enjoy the power of teamwork and am committed to creating collaborative and successful partnerships between clients and project teams.
4. What do you like to do outside of work?
The Bay of Plenty has many opportunities to experience the natural assets this country has to offer, I enjoy boating, mountain biking and generally exploring with my young family.
